The Plateau

Le Chien Fumant

Casual and cozy ambiance with cooks showing off their talent in the restaurant’s open kitchen. This “smoking dog” is for those who like to be comfy, without pretension, (keep your feet under the table and don’t do the I-drop-my-napkin game), and enjoy yourselves. Classic, indulgent cuisine (sweetbread, lasagna, chicken). Price range: $20 to $30 per entrée. (4710 rue de Lanaudiere).

Laloux

The menu of this restaurant is based on seasonal and local products. For these winter evenings, the chef offers you a taste of veal liver with polenta, beef with caramelized rutabaga purée or duck breast with dill spätzle. Price range: $20 to $30 per entrée. (250 avenue des Pins Est)

Buvette chez Simone

For those who like it simple and chic. Bountiful and delicious tapas (think about chorizo and cheese!!!); the rest of the menu offers traditional cuisine with local produce in a hip atmosphere (fashionistas welcome). Price range: $30 per person for food and wine. (4869 avenue du Parc).

Robin des Bois

How about a good cause for Valentine’s Day? All benefits are given to different charities that help people in need. The waiters are volunteers and work in a nice ambiance. Classic cuisine (vegetarians will be happy). Menus varies from $20 to $50. (4653 boulevard Saint-Laurent).

Old Montréal 

Holder

In this chic and famous brasserie (French for “you can eat well without having to dress in couture”), located in a belle époque building, you will find classic menus of the best European eateries as well as modern healthy entrées. Price range: $20 to $30 per person. (407 rue McGill).

Petit Moulinsart

Welcome to a restaurant whose ambiance is inspired by the Hergé’s comic series Tintin. There, you will find traditional Belgian cuisine: mussels-French fries, Waterzooi, carbonnade flamande… Don’t forget to wash it down with a cold beer! Price range: $20 to $30. (139 rue Saint Paul Ouest).

Casa de Matéo

In this award-winning restaurant, you will find a warm ambiance, and enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine with its delicious guacamole and refreshing margaritas. You can also expect or ask for the mariachis to spice up the place. Price Range: $20 to $30 per person. (438 rue Saint François -Xavier).

Mile End

Les Deux Singes de Montarvie 

Duck ravioli, lobster boudin, bison tataki. This bistro in the Mile End knows how to offer dishes that honour the French cuisine. It is almost too delicious for words. You have to try La crème aux oignons for us. Price range: between $15 and $30 per entrée. (176 rue Saint-Viateur Ouest).

Kaza Maza

No doubt: this is the best Syrian restaurant in Montreal. Plenty of Mezzés. For vegetarians: lentil soup, stuffed zucchinis, roasted beet purée. For meat lovers: all forms of kefta, braised lamb, grilled chicken. Two thumbs up! Price range: $15-$20 per entrée. (4629 avenue du Parc).
