A Royal Birthday
Friday June 15th from 10-3
For their one-year anniversary, the Royal Phoenix will be “honouring the djs, promoters and favourite allies that made our first year a success!” writes bar owner and Filles du Roi derby coach Val Desjardins. She’s chosen a couple of major queer favourites for the decks, with DJs The Salivation Army (Hot Sauce/FAF/Monster Ball, voted #4 best club DJ in the Mirror‘s Best of…) and Hatchmatik (GayBash) tearing up the floor. The guest list is a who’s who of their collaborators and co-hosts, with a photo-booth, drink specials, and custom cake from Zoe Casino to sweeten the deal.

Rough Diamond MEOW MIX – Queer Hip Hop Explosion
Saturday, June 16, 9:30pm
For her second-to-last official Meow Mix, Miriam Ginestier has teamed up with queer hip-hop promoters Rough Diamond Collective to bring some of the hottest names in the genre from Detroit, Boston, and Toronto to the otherwise indie-cis-male Suoni per il Popolo festival. A veteran of the Detroit underground, headliner Mz Jonz will be “volleying vivacious verses” from her newest album Here On My Own (H.O.M.O.), while Boston’s Micah Domingo will rattle the stage with songs like his 2011 cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Did It On Em”. Hosted by Montréal’s favourite Philadelphian transplant Benni E (Faggity Ass Fridays, Queers Pump This), this spectacular programme – rounded out by MC Jazz and Tri Shy – will feed the hip-hop-hungry queer scene 5 courses of superb sounds from some of the most engaging voices in the game, with DJ Priscilla Pleasant on the decks after. Not 2B missed.

No Pants, No Problem!
Saturday, June 16, 11:30pm
The official after-party for the riotously well-received off-Fringe musical If Looks Can Kill… They Will by queer burlesque tricksters Glam Gam Productions, this hormonal dance bacchanal will move to the beats of POMPe’s DJ Like the Wolf and feature performances from the extended “glamily,” including provocateur Johnny Forever. Proceeds are split between STELLA and AIDS ACTION NOW!, with the hosting prowess of 2B nightlife expert Tom McGraw, and Laura Boo ass to ass with No Pants founder + AAN! activist Jessica Whitbread. If you were at April’s No Pants party, you’ll know what I mean when I say this event is so hot you could have a stroke from all the bulge and ass grinding around you. Enjoy!

power | play: choose your own adventure
Written by Cameryn Moore, Directed by Elizabeth DuPré
June 15 – 23
Though this Fringe show doesn’t fit into the “party” category”, it’s another participative event that should be sexy and stimulating. Billed as a “slut slam story-telling open mic,” Cameryn Moore’s new theatrical intervention is about strangers locking glances, and audiences deciding the next steps! Promising a “lyrical, motivational, and intensely intimate storytelling journey into sex itself,” power / play is sure to include Moore’s signature uncensored tongue and salacious humour, picking up the added twist of audience participation where her risqué one-woman show Phone Whore left off.
