This weekend is a family affair with Cousins + APOCalyptic party + Audio Porn

After her seethingly hot set at the Pervers/cité DROPCUNT closing party, DJ Tamika kicks off a new night (Cousins) at the Royal Phoenix tonight. Just blocks away, 2QTPOC friends will be performing and spinning at The Plant – Saturday, we’re back at the RP for Audio Porn with Frantastik and Montag!

There’s nothing more annoying that having lots of events to go to on the same night that are too spread out. Luckily, tonight’s main events are practically within walking distance, with a crew of queer people of colour headlining the APOCalyptic Dancy Party at hush-hush loft venue The Plant (7pm, $5 PWYC). Featuring performances by Kama La Mackerel, Hua Li (aka rapper Peggy Hogan), Thom Kai Cheng (aka Ryan Thom) and Rough Diamond’s DJ Priscilla Pleasant, the event is a fundraiser for the Anarchist People of Colour Convergence (in New Orleans, Louisiana).

After you’ve said your hellos and shown off your moves at The Plant, swagger down to the Royal Phoenix for DJ Tam Ika‘s inaugural COUSINS night, with Toronto’s DJ’s Sammy Rawal and Nino Brown. A relatively new addition to party nights like Faggity Ass Fridays and Pervers/cité’s DROPCUNT, Tam Ika’s “We All Fam up in Hurr!!!!!” themed night will serve some “twerkin’ ass, balls to the wall, cunt to the floor” end-of-summer jam in the tradition of people-of-colour-led dance parties like TO’s YesYesY’all. With dub step, grime and bounce on the menu, looks like Tam Ika wants to see us all sweat one last time. ($5 PWYC @ 5788 boul. St-Laurent). Rumour has it there will be a draw for kd lang tickets if you show up between 10pm and midnight! (The Canadian lesbian icon performs at the Corona on Sept 28).

Saturday’s an easy two-step: start out at the (new-to-us) Fleurbain Gallery for the vernissage of group show “Fairytales in the City” featuring photos by 2B favourite Anna Grigorian (7pm, 460 Ste Catherine Est, Suite 917). After taking in some culture and free wine, it’s back to the Phoenix (is there a theme here?) for François Guimond and Antoine Bédard’s beat-savvy AUDIO PORN CLUB. With their “Touch Tones” theme, these two remaining Amour à Trois members will treat you to a booty call of sexy world pop, with the smart sounds of Montag (Bédard) and DJ Frantastik (Guimond). Only $5

See you there, cousins!
