Month in Music: Cazwell, Barbra, Dragonette!
A gay hip-hop Youtube sensation from NYC, the globe-trotting Dragonette, and the legendary (perhaps TOO legendary) Barbra Streisand take to stages of all sizes this month in Montréal…
Boys and Beats
NYC rapper and DJ Cazwell will be in Montréal for the first instalment of THE SCENE at the newly reopened PEOPL (formerly Club UN, 390 Notre-Dame Ouest). The new weekly Thursday dance nights will have queer favourite DJ B’UGO as resident, with a cycle of house music glitterati all month long. Mandatory viewing: “Rice & Beans”, “Get My Money Back”, and that timeless classic “All Over My Face.” (Thursday, Oct. 4, 9pm, $10, $15 at the door.)
Her name is Expensive
Barbra Streisand, one of the biggest voices in American music, and one of the most enduring divas in the gay pantheon comes to the Bell Centre, Wed. Oct. 17. Tickets are $235 and up(!), but many have commented that Streisand’s hefty ticket price won’t dissuade any of her real fans, who broke records when she sold out the same venue in 2006. Will you be shelling out for this guilty pleasure, or rewatching The Way We Were at home?
Fixin to Thrill
Toronto trio Dragonette will be in Montréal Oct 19 (at the Corona, 2490 Notre Dame Ouest) and in Ottawa Oct 20 (at Babylon, 317 Bank Street) to promote their new album Bodyparts. Frontwoman Martina Sorbara has been a lesbian heartthrob since her 2007 break-out single “I Get Around” and will be sure to bring out her legion of fans for both shows. Not 2B missed!
