The month ahead is a choosey one for queer culture-lovers. The Festival du Nouveau Cinéma will present Joy! Portrait of a Nun (along with a few other gay-friendly treats); new gallery space RATS9 unveils JJ Levine’s new “Queer Portraits” and the crowd-pleasing Dan Deacon takes the mic at the SAT.

As the students are taking back the streets and the politicians are preparing to seduce you with promises, promoter Eric Paradis and his team are getting ready for Montréal’s 8th Fetish Weekend on Labour Day. Sampling the best of Ottawa’s late summer events, Sanita Fejzic reveals the highlights of Capital Pride and Cirque Bizarre; a last chance to see some rare photos at the National Gallery, 18th-centry comedy for the masses, and the perfect place to nerd out for a good cause…

Sanita Fejzic met up with Sebastien Provost and Sara Ainslie at Mercury Lounge to discuss their new production company House of SAS and its first week-long party, Cirque Bizarre from August 22 to 25 at the old Ottawa Jail Hostel.

Pervers/cité isn’t so much a festival as it is a joyful confrontation. This year, the self-proclaimed “Underside of Pride” is being enriched by the parallel (and connected) 2-QTPOC event series, with performances, workshops, parties, art shows and a book fair leading up to the Pride parade. It kicks off with a punk show tonight (Thurs, Aug 9) @ Coop Katacombes.

Homo-cult film director Bruce LaBruce is in town tonight to “host” the official Apocalipstik after-party at the Royal Phoenix. The Toronto-based international homosexual provocateur will be sticking around for a few weeks to cast his next bad taste opus: Gerontophilia, to be shot in Montréal.

Jessica Whitbread, founder of the infectiously popular “No Pants, No Problem!” benefit dance parties for AIDS ACTION NOW! is taking the party on the road for the 19th International AIDS Conference in Washington after two fabulously successful recent parties in Montréal.
