Montréal’s Radical Dyke March: political and visible

Tomorrow night (Tues. Aug 14), hundreds of lesbians will take to the streets to live a historic moment, claiming to be Montréal’s first ever Dyke March. Organized by an independent collective looking to repoliticize and give visibility to the lesbian community, the group also hopes to raise awareness and celebrate dyke identities.

As if there wasn’t already enough excitement around the Radical Dyke March, organizers of the lesbian-only demo have brought in one of their most famous sisters: JD Samson, frontwoman for the electro project MEN. (At Cabaret Mile End, Tues. Aug. 14, 9pm).

The 7th annual Ottawa Dyke March took place on Saturday, August 27th with about 300 participants taking over the downtown streets in a peaceful act of solidarity for women. However the event was marred by rude, abrasive and threatening behavior from the Ottawa police.
